House break in, February 26, 2016

Dear Lake Shores resident,

Around the noon timeframe today, a home on Lakewood Dr was broken into. Fortunately, around that same timeframe, a suspicious car (Burgundy colored Olds Intrigue) was noticed and the police were called. The police did talk with the driver of the car but it wasn’t until later that the break-in was known. When the police arrived to investigate the robbery, another resident was able to provide a description on another individual who had been seen at the house that was broken into. Based on the timeline, it appears that the police were talking to the driver while the house was being robbed by another individual. Due to the diligence of several residents being aware of suspicious activity, the police have a name of one individual and a description of the other.

A couple of weeks ago, a strong-arm robbery took place, also on Lakewood Dr, in which a man walked into the garage of someone just coming home and stole her purse.

This is just a reminder to be aware of your surroundings as well as suspicious activity. You can report suspicious activity by calling the Desk Sergeant at 427-1222 or 911 in emergency situations.

Sincerely,

Lake Shores Community Association Board

Be Aware!

We have heard from a neighbor on the west side that her purse was stolen. She left it in her car, went back in the house for a moment and it was snatched in that brief couple of minutes. The police were called and responded immediately. They were most helpful to her and she was very impressed.

Be aware of your surroundings, Protect your valuables. AND call the police if you see or suspect something out of the ordinary! If you are uncertain, call the desk sergeant at 427-1222.

Spring things

ENERGIZING INDIANA
Energizing Indiana Home Energy Assessments can help raise your home's performance, lower energy bills, improve in-home air quality and increase your home's value. Complete an enrollment form and Energizing Indiana will call to schedule your appointment. Your energy advisor will install the following items for you: Energy efficient CFL's, Energy efficient faucet aerators and showerheads, and Water heater pipe insulation. Energizing Indiana programs are funded by utility rates and there are no separate fees to participate.
Call Judy Church (Lake Shores resident) at 478-6757 for an enrollment form. They will also be available at the April general association meeting. When your assessment is complete, Energizing Indiana will donate $25.00 to First Christian Church, 4800 S Calhoun St, as a nonprofit organization.

SPRING BREAK
We have been advised by the police department to be aware that during spring break vandalism is usually on the rise. If you notice anything unusual or suspicions please call 911. Also, after the fact please report any vandalism to police. One resident did have a pipe bomb or fire crackers explode in the mail box several weeks ago. This is an example of an incident that needed to be reported to police and it was. So often we are tempted to just say "oh, well" and take care of the damage. You can always call 427-1230 for non-emergencies.

DATES TO REMEMBER
     Spring Garage sales: April 25-26
General Meeting: April 28 @ 7:00 p.m. Avalon Missionary Church West building.
If you are in favor of snow removal by the association, please plan to attend as we will be voting on this issue at the meeting.
Jean Wyss, a master gardener, and the judge for our yard of the month, will speak on Native plants and rain gardens.
Register for a chance to win a gift certificate to the stand.

Happy Holidays!

Neighbors, Fabian and Agnes Gabrek, donated the large evergreen from their yard to be displayed at Hardin and Shine Law Offices on Broadway. The decorated tree is absolutely beautiful! Be sure to see it during the holiday season. Thank you to the Gabrek's for their generous donation.

Judging of the homes decorated for the holidays will be done this week. Be sure to have your lights on each evening from now until Saturday night. Thanks to everyone for making Lakeshores shine brightly this holiday season. Winners will be announced on the blog soon.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
to our Neighbors!
