The City of Fort Wayne has agreed to make a third pick up of leaves on the South Side of the city. Leaves are to be raked to the park strip by 7:00 am on Monday, December 5, 2016.
We were the first part of the city to get a pick up and at that time very few leaves had fallen. I know that because of this many association members called 311 to request another pick up. I can't be sure that this effected the city's decision to add another pick up, but it didn't hurt. Thank you to everyone who called.
Please tell you neighbors about this pickup in case they haven't heard about it.
Thank you.

Update November 14, 2016
Beware:
We have had another incident in our neighborhood.
A young, maybe 20, black man approached a woman working in her garage. He asked if she knew of any work for him. She went into her house to get something to write his name and number down. He followed her into the house and he left with her purse. The police were called and all information taken down. If you saw this person or have any information regarding this incident, please call the police at the non-emergency number, 427-1222.
Please beware when you are approached by people you don't know. If you see someone in your area that just doesn't seem right call the non-emergency number. The police will be happy to check it out if they have time. If it is an emergency call 911.
Leaf Pickup
We have been told that the city will not be picking up leaves again in our area. However, I spoke with Jason Arp, our 4th district rep today. He suggested everyone call 311 and express their concern that we still have so many leaves to be picked up. Our area was first on the schedule this year, when very few leaves had fallen. It may not do any good this year but the city might reconsider their schedule for next year. When the city is considering changes the first place they go is the 311 log of calls. This tells them how many people have complained or commented on a certain situation.
As of right now it will be necessary to bag any remaining leaves and call 311 for pickup. Hopefully next year this will change.

Neighborhood Vandalism
You may have heard on the news about the widespread acts of
vandalism that have hit the city. Individuals driving through neighborhoods are
shooting at vehicles and homes breaking windows and causing other damage,
presumable with a bb gun. Our neighborhood has not escaped these acts of
vandalism. The police are asking your help. If you heard or saw anything during
the early morning hours of August 29, please call the desk sergeant at 427-1222
and ask to speak to Officer Cornell Wiley. They did receive an anonymous call
with some information. Police are asking if you made that call to please call
again. They have some more questions. You will not have to give your name or
phone number.

GREAT AMERICAN CLEANUP
The Great American Cleanup is the nation's largest Community improvement program and Fort Wayne has taken part for 20 years. This year's event will take place on Saturday, May 21, 2016. We would like to get 20 or so volunteers to pick up trash along Airport Express Way between Lower Huntington Rd and Winchester Rd. The city will provide bags and gloves. Please contact us through this blog or president Walt Halley, at 747-0165 by April 21, if you can participate. We will need to register with the City to be assured of supplies. More information will follow. Thank you for showing pride in our neighborhood and city.

House break in, February 26, 2016
Around the
noon timeframe today, a home on Lakewood
Dr was broken into. Fortunately, around that same
timeframe, a suspicious car (Burgundy
colored Olds Intrigue) was noticed and the police were called. The police did
talk with the driver of the car but it wasn’t until later that the break-in was
known. When the police arrived to investigate the robbery, another resident was
able to provide a description on another individual who had been seen at the
house that was broken into. Based on the timeline, it appears that the police
were talking to the driver while the house was being robbed by another
individual. Due to the diligence of several residents being aware of suspicious
activity, the police have a name of one individual and a description of the
other.
A couple of
weeks ago, a strong-arm robbery took place, also on Lakewood Dr, in which a man
walked into the garage of someone just coming home and stole her purse.
This is
just a reminder to be aware of your surroundings as well as suspicious
activity. You can report suspicious activity by calling the Desk Sergeant at
427-1222 or 911 in emergency situations.
Sincerely,
Tony Landon – Treasurer

Be Aware!
We have heard from a neighbor on the west side that her purse was stolen. She left it in her car, went back in the house for a moment and it was snatched in that brief couple of minutes. The police were called and responded immediately. They were most helpful to her and she was very impressed.
Be aware of your surroundings, Protect your valuables. AND call the police if you see or suspect something out of the ordinary! If you are uncertain, call the desk sergeant at 427-1222.
