Attempted Break-In

We received this notice from a resident last Thursday, June 1, 2017

I received a call from ADT telling me my alarms were going off at my house on Hollyhill Dr. while I was at work.  Cops were called and had my mom rush over to see what was going on for me.  After looking around signs on the front door frame shows someone attempted to pry open my front door.  Luckily between the alarm system and my two big dogs they did not get inside but unfortunately they got away as well.  This was done approximately around 7pm during daylight hours so those involved are not afraid to be seen. What concerns me is this was attempted during the ONLY day and time window opportunity guaranteed for them not to have anyone stop by or come home which shows they might have been watching for a little while. Which I will be making changes to household schedules to make sure such a weekly routine time frame of opportunity no longer exists. Please let everyone know so they can watch out for themselves and each other.  If you see something out of the ordinary make sure to speak up.

Leaf Pickup

The City of Fort Wayne has agreed to make a third pick up of leaves on the South Side of the city. Leaves are to be raked to the park strip by 7:00 am on Monday, December 5, 2016.

We were the first part of the city to get a pick up and at that time very few leaves had fallen. I know that because of this many association members called 311 to request another pick up. I can't be sure that this effected the city's decision to add another pick up, but it didn't hurt. Thank you to everyone who called.

Please tell you neighbors about this pickup in case they haven't heard about it.

Thank you.

Update November 14, 2016

Beware:
We have had another incident in our neighborhood.
A young, maybe 20, black man approached a woman working in her garage. He asked if she knew of any work for him. She went into her house to get something to write his name and number down. He followed her into the house and he left with her purse. The police were called and all information taken down. If you saw this person or have any information regarding this incident, please call the police at the non-emergency number, 427-1222.
Please beware when you are approached by people you don't know. If you see someone in your area that just doesn't seem right call the non-emergency number. The police will be happy to check it out if they have time. If it is an emergency call 911.

Leaf Pickup
We have been told that the city will not be picking up leaves again in our area. However, I spoke with Jason Arp, our 4th district rep today. He suggested everyone  call 311 and express their concern that we still have so many leaves to be picked up. Our area was first on the schedule this year, when very few leaves had fallen. It may not do any good this year but the city might reconsider their schedule for next year. When the city is considering changes the first place they go is the 311 log of calls. This tells them how many people have complained or commented on a certain situation.
As of right now it will be necessary to bag any remaining leaves and call 311 for pickup. Hopefully next year this will change.

Please share this information with your neighbors.

Neighborhood Vandalism

You may have heard on the news about the widespread acts of vandalism that have hit the city. Individuals driving through neighborhoods are shooting at vehicles and homes breaking windows and causing other damage, presumable with a bb gun. Our neighborhood has not escaped these acts of vandalism. The police are asking your help. If you heard or saw anything during the early morning hours of August 29, please call the desk sergeant at 427-1222 and ask to speak to Officer Cornell Wiley. They did receive an anonymous call with some information. Police are asking if you made that call to please call again. They have some more questions. You will not have to give your name or phone number.

The Great American Cleanup is the nation's largest Community improvement program and Fort Wayne has taken part for 20 years. This year's event will take place on Saturday, May 21, 2016. We would like to get 20 or so volunteers to pick up trash along Airport Express Way between Lower Huntington Rd and Winchester Rd. The city will provide bags and gloves. Please contact us through this blog or president Walt Halley, at 747-0165 by April 21, if you can participate. We will need to register with the City to be assured of supplies.
